Technology and citizen-centred
service: the Government of Canada's vision for serving Canadians better
June 20, 2001
ETOBICOKE— The Government of Canada has set the ambitious goal of becoming
the nation most connected to its citizens. This commitment is part
of a broader vision to serve Canadians better - to provide them with greater
access to their Government whenever they want, wherever they want, and
in the official language of their choice.
"At the heart of this vision is the Government of Canada's determination
to put citizens first, at the centre of new ways of delivering information
and services," says Roy Cullen, M.P. for Etobicoke North. "This will
require improving access to government information and services and making
sure Canadians are satisfied with the service they receive, whether in
person, over the telephone, or over the Internet."
Visitors to the Canada Site www.canada.gc.ca, will find information
about programs such as employment insurance and the Canada Pension Plan,
help finding a job, business start-up assistance, services for young people
and a range of frequently used Government of Canada forms - just a few
examples of the wealth of information and services on-line. The Canada
Site can also be accessed through www.roycullen.com, an Internet
site to keep Etobicoke North constituents informed of Mr. Cullen's activities
in Ottawa and the community.
Putting citizens first means much more than simply delivering government
services through the Internet. Canadians can get in-person service
at Service Canada Centres, or visit www.canada.gc.ca for locations).
At these Access Centres, assistance locating Government of Canada information
and services is provided. Free Internet access is also available.
For personal service over the telephone, you can call 1-800-O-Canada.
"The transformation to e-government will benefit all Canadians, not
just those with Internet access," said Roy Cullen. "That is
a guiding principle of the Government of Canada's vision to serve citizens
better."
