Local Student Receives Excellence
Award
May 18, 2001
ETOBICOKE -
On behalf of the constituents of Etobicoke North, I would like to congratulate
Sameer A. Vasta from Etobicoke North upon receiving an excellence award
from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation for the 2001-2002 academic
year.
Sameer has been awarded one of the 200 Provincial excellence awards
of the Foundation. Excellence awards recognize academic achievement,
leadership, and interest in innovation. The program takes a broad
view of excellence as it seeks to reward students who use their talents
to enhance their community.
As both a Canadian citizen and a Member of Parliament, I believe it
is important to encourage these talented, engaged students. They
enrich our communities, and the excellence awards represent a valuable
opportunity for them to continue their good work and develop their skills
further.
The Excellence Award Program is a Government of Canada initiative.
It represents a significant investment in the future of Canadians and an
original way of celebrating the new millennium. This year, up to
900 scholarships will be handed out to students entering post-secondary
studies for the first time. There are three levels of award: national,
provincial and local.
