ETOBICOKE – Roy Cullen, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development, today announced a contribution of $400,000 for the Centre of Foreign Trained Professionals and Tradespeople project at Humber College. This project is funded by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) under the Employment Assistance Services Program. The program will include employment preparation for the following: career assessment and planning, credential evaluation, prior learning assessment, transferable skills identification related to the current Canadian labour market, short and long term career action and job search plans, and customized work search information and strategies for this specialized group to sucessfully make the transition into the Canadian labour market. The Centre offers a unique program that assists foreign trained professionals and tradespeople in finding work related to their skills or professional background. Clients are given the opportunity to establish work search strategies, while receiving ongoing support. This intensive, hands-on, five-week program uses structured activities and a group support system for a customized work search. "Humber College, with Human Resources Development Canada’s support, will provide an invaluable service for individuals needing employment assistance as they incorporate themselves into the Canadian labour market." "As the Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North, I encourage workers to participate in this worthy program, and I commend Humber College for their important work in this needed area."
