Local Man Assists
Police
June 18, 2001
ETOBICOKE— A retired Lt. Col. of the Indian Army infantry division,
Hardev Singh Rai used the skills he acquired in the army to assist 23 Division
of the Toronto Police Department in apprehending a suspect.
On January 27th, 2001 Mr. Rai confronted a suspect at an underground
garage at 3390 Weston Road. The suspect fled the building in a stolen
car. Mr. Rai contacted the police immediately thereafter and provided
a detailed description of the suspect and the car.
Police Officers, while on patrol in the area, subsequently found the
suspect Mr. Rai had encountered. Their investigation showed that
the suspect was driving a stolen car from Huntsville and that he was a
runaway from a group home.
The suspect would not have been apprehended if it were not for the efforts
of Mr. Rai. He deserves to be recognized for his actions. Mr.
Rai is an example to the community of an astute and keen observer who is
willing to act on his instincts when he witnesses something suspicious.
