The Federal Government

The federal government is responsible for matters of national concern. These include national defence, Canada Post, immigration policy and heritage issues, income tax, the GST, seniors benefits and the Canadian Pension Plan, veterans affairs, national parks and monuments and the Criminal Code. In addition, the Federal Government establishes policies on issues to guide the provinces in their delivery of that service. For example, Health Canada sets the standards of national Medical Care. It is up to the provinces however, to deliver and administer medical services
